138 inmates test positive for COVID-19 at a Colorado prison
STERLING, Colo. (KRDO) -- In recent weeks, COVID-19 outbreaks at nursing homes have proven very dangerous. And now, it's also a serious concern at prisons.
At the Sterling Correctional Facility, about a two-hour drive northeast of Denver, officials recently tested 255 inmates who were showing symptoms. Results are still coming in, but as of Friday evening, 138 inmates have tested positive.
Prisoners were quarantined in their cells back on April 14th, according to the release from the Colorado Department of Corrections. The CDOC says it's now monitoring the situation.
