Steve’s Garden: How to prep your garden for the end of growing season

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- As the middle of September approaches, so do cooler temperatures and the end of growing season.

Out in Steve's Garden, there are still some healthy plants, but the growing season comes to an end with the first freezing temperatures of the year.

Don't let the recent hot weather fool you; that could be just around the corner! On average, Colorado Springs sees its first freezing temperatures at the beginning of October.

"We still have three weeks of growing season left, and we are trying to, as we get closer, harvest tomatoes," Mike Spencer from Spencer's Lawn and Garden Centers said. "Start pulling tomatoes up, hanging them upside down and letting them ripen on the vine. Once the season is over, you'll want to get the plants out and your compost. You'll want to start tilling the soil, get in a preparation this fall so you don't have much to do in the spring."
