Colorado Springs neighborhood face burglary shock, offer $1,000 reward for information
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Not one but two residents of a northeastern Colorado Springs Neighborhood fell victim to burglars hours apart on Sunday.
Now they're putting up a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Wes Jones tells KRDO13 on Sunday that he was packing up his car to go on a trip. His garage door was open when he dipped inside to feed his dog. It's a chore that Jones says only takes a minute.
However, during that time, security camera footage shows a man in a blue hoodie jumping out of a truck, running into Jones' garage, and stealing a box from the back of his car. Jones chased after the man as his partner-in-crime sped away.
That wasn't the only home burglarized in The Nook neighborhood on Sunday. The next crime scene is less than five houses down.
"I knew that I made a mistake and I left my door open. But I live in a safe neighborhood that you think even if you do that, you don't expect somebody to steal your belongings," said Lucas Franzen.
Franzen tells KRDO13 that at first, he didn't notice anything amiss in his garage on Sunday, but eventually he realized two big items were missing from the garage of his Northeast Colorado Springs home. One of those items missing was his son's prized possession.
A check of his security camera confirmed it. Before the sun came up, thieves snuck into his garage and stole his son's motorbike and a power generator.
"This [the bike] is his favorite thing ever. More than video games. More than the sports he plays. He loves this bike, riding it with his friends. So not only is it worth the money that I spent and I earned, but also my son doesn't have the thing that he loves," Franzen said.
The Colorado Springs Police Department couldn't confirm to KRDO13 that the two Sunday burglaries were connected, but according to an online police database, there have been four burglaries in the area in the past month. That includes the two on Sunday.
