Six hospitalized after 11-vehicle crash near intersection of Carefree and Powers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) – The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) says six people were injured after an 11-vehicle crash near the intersection of North Carefree Circle and Powers Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon.

Crews were first reported at the scene of the crash just before 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 3.

Police say all six injured people, including three who had to be extracted from their cars, were taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries. According to CSPD, four of them have serious injuries.

It's still unclear what led to the massive crash, which shut down southbound Powers completely for hours.

CSPD Public Communications Specialist Caitlin Ford Blanco said alcohol and drugs are not currently being considered as factors in the crash, but distracted driving and speeding may have contributed.

CSPD said the crash remains under investigation. All lanes were reopened Wednesday night after closures that lasted several hours, according to the department.

Police say no arrests have been made at this time.
