Deadly police shooting in northeast Colorado Springs under investigation

KRDO

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - An investigation continues Tuesday following a shooting involving police, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Just before midnight Monday, police responded to a call involving a suicidal individual at a residence on in the 5100 block of Prairie Grass Lane, near Tutt Boulevard.

Initial reports indicated that the male suspect lived at the home, was involved in a disturbance with his roommates and was cutting himself with a knife.

When police arrived at the scene, the department said that the man aggressively approached officers with that knife, resulting in one officer firing their gun at least once.

Despite officers attempting life-saving measures, the man was transported to a medical facility, where he was pronounced dead by authorities.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is now in charge of the investigation.

The intersection of Prairie Grass and Buckshot Way is sealed off, and the Metro Crime Lab arrived just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Some neighbors noticed the scene as they prepared to leave for work, and police allowed them to exit through the opposite end of the block.

This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more.
