Pueblo officials speak regarding a proposed rate hike from Black Hills Energy

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) - The Pueblo Board of County Commissioners, Pueblo Mayor, and City Council President held a press conference regarding a proposed rate increase from Black Hills Energy.

All of the speakers condemned the rate hike saying that the community is already charged the most and should not be burdened with the 18% proposed increase.

“PEDCO is fundamentally concerned and opposed to the rate increase proposed by Black Hills. Black
Hills rates are already a barrier to attracting primary jobs in Pueblo. Further increases will only exacerbate the problems we all experience on a daily basis. While these rates may be good for Black Hills and its shareholders, they can only be described as predatory for the residents and commercial ratepayers in Pueblo. We hope the Pueblo community will stand up and fight any rate increases and demand the PUC not only reject this proposal outright, but also work with Pueblo to find a long-term solution for the citizens of Pueblo,” added Jeff Shaw, President and CEO of Pueblo Economic Development Corporation.
