Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Less Rain – 8/24/19

Overview: Hotter and drier air will work over the state this weekend lowering chances for showers and thunderstorms over many areas. Some signs of fall will appear across parts of Colorado at times next week!

Today: There will be pockets of low cloud cover over parts of eastern Colorado early this morning, then partly cloudy and breezy at times with much lesser chances for rain for most areas this afternoon. It is possible that a few sprinkles will develop over and near the mountains around the Pikes Peak Region late, and isolated showers possibly accompanied by some thunder could occur mainly south of the Arkansas River, but we don’t expect sustained, heavy rain anywhere today. The air will get pretty warm this afternoon with high temperatures in the 80s and 90s for the plains, mainly 70s to lower 80s over the mountains.

Tonight: Partly to mostly cloudy this evening, then mostly clear tonight. By morning the air should have cooled into the 50s and 60s for most areas although the high mountain valleys will cool into the 40s .

Sunday: Mostly sunny and hot with high temperatures in the 90s to lower 100s for the plains; 70s and 80s for the mountains.

Extended: We expect to be mostly sunny, breezy and cooler on Monday with high temperatures falling back into the 80s to lower 90s for the plains with mainly 70s over the mountains. Patchy low clouds may develop over the plains Monday night into Tuesday morning as the cooler air brings some low level moisture back towards the mountains. Tuesday looks cooler again with just a slight chance for some spotty showers and thunderstorms over and near the mountains, mainly south of the Arkansas River. Warmer again Wednesday and then hot on Thursday with a slightly better chance for isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Another cold front appears more likely to bring rain back to more areas by the end of the week.
