Pentagon identifies paratroopers killed in Afghanistan
The Pentagon has identified two paratroopers who were killed in a suspected insider attack in Afghanistan on Monday.
They’ve been identified as Pfc. Brandon Kreischer, 20, and Spc. Michael Nance, 24. They were both assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, and were based out of Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
Pfc. Kreischer was from Stryker, Ohio. Spc. Nance was from Chicago. Pentagon officials say they were killed in a “combat related incident”. The Associated Press reported that an Afghan soldier shot them before they were wounded and taken into custody.
Miliary.com reports that these latest deaths bring the 2019 total to 15, which now matches the total for 2018. They’re also the second and third service members to die in Afghanistan this month alone. On July 13, Sgt. Maj. James Sartor was killed by enemy small arms fire. Sartor, 40, was a Green Beret and was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group out of Fort Carson. A funeral service was held on July 27 at the Air Force Academy Chapel.
