You can ride in a WWII B-17 Flying Fortress, too
The B-17 Flying Fortress, one of the most influential bombers of WWII, was on display at the Colorado Springs Airport on Monday, and you can take a ride in the aircraft next week.
People will be able to take a ride on the B-17 or the P-51 Mustang, as part of the Liberty Foundation’s annual flying tour August 3rd and 4th.
Foundation officials say the tour is done to honor United States veterans and educate the public on the high cost of freedom.
The B-17 was designed in response to the U.S. Army’s request for a multiengine bomber back in 1935, according to Boeing. The Lone Star Flight Museum credits the B-17 with executing a strategic bombing effort against the Nazis by daylight, while the British bombers struck at night.
