Marty’s Sunday Morning Forecast – Drier Afternoon – 7/28/19
Overview: The plume of moisture associated with the summer monsoon has shifted east of the area today, and combined with some drying at the surface due to a weak cold front showers and thunderstorms are expected to be much less numerous today. We’ll continue tracking the monsoon flow and some hot air as we move deeper into the work week.
Today: A weak cold front will move over eastern Colorado today kicking up the breeze, and combined with some drier air aloft should mean a reduction in the coverage of thunderstorms for many of us, although isolated, generally weak thunderstorms are still possible over mainly southern parts of our coverage area. The southeastern corner of the state could have stronger storms or two late this afternoon or early this evening. Expect high temperatures in the 80s and 90s for the plains, mainly 70s over the mountains.
Tonight: Any isolated showers and thunderstorms that may have developed will come to an end with a partly cloudy sky expected by morning. We expect low temperatures to fall into the 50s and 60s for most areas, although where the air is drier over the high mountain valleys and higher mountain communities the temperature may slip into the 40s .
Extended: Thunderstorms should increase in coverage over many areas on Monday with better chances for heavy rain with the stronger storms. Tuesday and Wednesday look pretty hot with only isolated thunderstorms expected, then a little cooler with an increase in storms again on Thursday.
