Robbery suspects caught hiding, swimming in Memorial Park

Colorado Springs police say two suspects accused of robbing a 7-Eleven store early Tuesday morning were caught while hanging out in Memorial Park after the theft.

The robbery happened at 1:38 a.m. at the corner of Hancock Ave. and E. Costilla Street. A clerk reported being threatened with a handgun before the two men took cash and cigarettes.

Police surrounded Memorial Park, which is across the block from the 7-Eleven. With the help of a K-9, officers were able to find the suspects.

One of the suspects was caught hiding in a tree, the other was walking out of Prospect Lake after “going for a swim,” according to CSPD. They were both arrested.

The suspects were identified as 19-year-old Jacob Edwards and 18-year-old Jaron Jones. Jones is also allegedly connected to another robbery that happened on May 27 at a 7-Eleven at 1702 S. 8th Street.
