Brett Axton wins 2019 Silver Spur Award

The Pikes Peak Range Riders named the winner of the 2019 Silver Spur Award this weekend.

Brett Axton, president of the Colorado Chapter of Safari Club International, was honored with this year’s award for his work with local groups and decades of volunteerism.

Axton has been a volunteer for 25 years and has long helped produce the Colorado Springs Western Street Breakfast. He’s also been the head Mutton Buster at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo.

Along with Kevin Maguire, Axton also founded the Sportsmen Community Shootout, which has raised nearly $460,000 in the last 16 years for dozens of charities in the Pikes Peak Region.

Axton also received Fort Carson’s Good Neighbor Award in 2008 in recognition of his support of soldiers and their families.
