Multiple car break-ins reported in Cimarron Hills neighborhood

Within three hours, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office received ten calls of car break-ins happening in a Cimarron Hills neighborhood.

The neighborhood near Peterson Road and Constitution Avenue has dozens of cars parked on the streets and in driveways.

Geraldine Konnecke and her family have lived in the area for less than a year. They were out of town when they checked their surveillance video and saw someone drive up in a truck, get out and smash their mailbox with a baseball bat. When Konnecke and her family returned home, she says she saw the same truck and same suspect drive by the house. Konnecke then chased after it, ” I got a pretty good view of when his truck was coming straight at me, ” Konnecke says. ” It’s a younger male with blond hair I would say still in high school. ”

Then early Monday morning, she says the same suspect returns to the home. The surveillance video showing them try to open the doors to one of the cars in their driveway.

When the suspect failed, they went to another car. This time the doors were unlocked, but as soon as they opened the doors the alarm went off. ” As soon as the door opened the alarm went off, he took off, ” Konnecke says.

The suspect was not seen again. All of this happening with Konnecke, her husband and two kids sleeping inside. ” It is very scary, especially when you have kids it was horrifying. ”

While nothing of theirs was stolen, her neighbors weren’t so lucky.

” My husband drove down the street and there was multiple cars where their doors were wide open and their lights were on, ” Konnecke says.

She describes the suspect as being a young, skinny white male with blond hair driving a silver Chevy Silverado believed to be a 2000s model.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages those who have security footage or any information to share it with them.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office does have a partnership program with residents who have security cameras on their homes. You can register your cameras with the sheriff’s office so then if any crime happens in your neighborhood, deputies can reach out and ask to look at the video.
