Carjacking suspect arrested following police pursuit in Pueblo
A 33-year-old man was arrested Thursday afternoon following an armed carjacking incident and police pursuit.
Officers were flagged down by a man in the area of E 4th Street and Hudson Ave. The victim said he had been carjacked by a man who had a handgun.
The suspect, who was later identified as Donald Vallejos, is accused of taking the victim’s tow truck, which belonged to the victim’s employer.
Officers were able to locate the tow truck several blocks away and a pursuit began. Vallejos drove recklessly, at one point he collided with a white box truck as he was traveling northbound in the 1400 block of Troy Ave.
During the pursuit, a detective deployed a tire deflation device, which caused the tires of the stolen vehicle to deflate. Vallejos continued driving but eventually stopped in the area of E 11th St. and Fearnow Ave.
Vallejos was then taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Pueblo County Detention Center on several charges including aggravated robbery, attempted robbery, attempted second-degree homicide, eluding and reckless driving.
The reason behind the attempted robbery charge was due to an unsuccessful attempt to carjack another person just prior to the incident.
