24-year-old guilty after home invasion that injured 2 kids
One of the three men arrested after a violent home invasion last year in Colorado Springs was found guilty by a jury Wednesday.
Jerenzo Clarence Kyles, 24, was convicted of second-degree kidnapping, attempted murder, and attempted aggravated robbery after an incident on April 4, 2018, that sent two children to the hospital.
According to Colorado Springs police, Kyles and Elliot Salther went into a house near Wyatt Street and Monica Drive, assaulted two children and then fled. When they were confronted by a neighbor, several handgun shots were fired; then Kyles and Salther fled in a vehicle.
No one was struck by the bullets, but some nearby property was damaged. The children were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police got an arrest warrant for Kyles on a charge of attempted first-degree murder. Investigators with CSPD and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force learned that he was in the area of Killeen, Texas. He was taken into custody several weeks after the invasion at a Walmart in Killeen.
Salther was arrested on April 12 after a standoff near San Marcos Drive. El Paso County SWAT had to respond to his house and shoot out the windows with gas canisters. He was charged with attempted first-degree murder. VIDEO:
Police identified the suspected getaway driver as Keotis Demetric Reed. He was also arrested and charged in connection with the home invasion.
Reed’s and Salther’s cases are still pending.
A sentencing date for Kyles hasn’t been set yet.
