UPDATE: Police capture sex offenders who escaped Colorado detention center

Authorities say they have captured two sex offenders who escaped from a juvenile detention center near Denver by using bedsheets to climb down from a broken window.

The Denver Post reports Golden police arrested 19-year-old Javier Madera and his 17-year-old roommate in Lakewood on Tuesday – a day after they escaped from the Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center.

Police say the two teens led officers on a short chase before they crashed their vehicle and tried to run away.

Police say Madera was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on charges of criminal mischief and escape. The other teen was charged with reckless driving, felony eluding, criminal mischief and escape.

Authorities say a juvenile female was also taken into custody.
