Fallen Fort Carson soldier arrives in Colorado Springs

A special forces soldier killed in Afghanistan in March will arrive at Peterson Air Force Base on Wednesday afternoon.

Sgt. 1st Class William Lindsay, 33, will arrive at Peterson AFB from Dover AFB in Maryland at approximately 1:30 pm. His body will be escorted by Colorado Springs police officers through the city.

Lindsay, a green beret from Cortez, CO was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group.

He was one of two Fort Carson soldiers killed March 22.

Spc. Joseph P. Collette, 29, an explosive ordnance disposal specialist from Lancaster, OH was assigned to the 242nd Ordnance Battalion, 71st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group.

The military has said that the soldiers were killed by small arms fire during combat operations in the Kunduz Province of Afghanistan.

Collette’s body is set to arrive at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus, Ohio Wednesday morning.

Following Lindsey’s arrival at Peterson AFB Wednesday afternoon, his remains will be loaded into a hearse on the flight line at Peterson as part of a dignified transfer ceremony, according to a spokesperson for the special forces group at Fort Carson.

There will be a procession following the ceremony. The procession will begin at Peterson AFB, go up Peterson Blvd. towards Stewart, turn onto Stewart and then out the west gate.

According to a spokesperson at Peterson, personnel at Peterson are encouraged to line up along Peterson Blvd to pay their respect as the procession passes.

However, as of Monday afternoon, there was no formal plan for the public to pay similar respects on or off the base.
