Falcon RV business recovers after tornado
People are still picking up the pieces after Friday’s tornado tore through parts of El Paso County.
Owners of Falcon Storage Center are just beginning to wrap their heads around the damage. They say damages to property owners who leave trailers, boats, RV’s on the property will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“Judging from our surveillance there was about two minutes of tornado on our property,” said Julie Bagley, the manager of Falcon Storage Center.
The business has surveillance footage from Friday’s storms showing RV’s being thrown around the property like toys.
“I know one trailer that got flipped is a good five thousand to six thousand pounds,” said Bagley.
Now that the storm has passed and winds have died down. The priority for Falcon Storage Center has become the RV and boat owners.
“I would say damage costs are definitely upwards to at least about at least half a million in property damages to our customers here individually at least up to one hundred thousand dollars in fencing and damage to the property and owners here,” said Bagley.
Dozens of RV owners came to the site on Saturday to see just how bad the damages were.
“I just turned the corner and it was clean, and I just thought thank god,” said Joel Sundquist, one of the lucky RV owners who left their property at the storage site. Sundquist just recently purchased his RV weeks before the tornado hit.
“We bought it during the winter months and it was a nice weekend so we drove it out of state, and we brought it back,” said Sundquist. “We hadn’t even taken it out and our trip was two weeks from today so we were like oh please let us take it out one time.”
Falcon storage center urges people to come check out their property as soon as possible.
National Weather Service survey crews were also on scene Saturday morning. The National Weather Service out of Pueblo tells KRDO they are currently working on gauging the strength of Friday ‘s tornado, and will have a report by this weekend
