HSPPR continues rescuing dogs from Pueblo animal shelter

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region says it rescued 13 more dogs from Community Animal Services of Pueblo Thursday morning.

That’s after HSPPR took its “Rescue Rover” down to Pueblo Wednesday to rescue animals in the wake of CASP relinquishing its license to operate. Currently, the shelter in Pueblo isn’t open and all of the animals are being moved to other shelters in the state.

It’s going to take several days for the Humane Society to sort through information because the records for the rescued animals “are minimal,” according to a statement from Gretchen Pressley with HSPPR. That follows what inspectors from the Colorado Department of Agriculture found during multiple visits to CASP.

The Humane Society says it’s not taking over shelter operations in Pueblo, as some outlets have reported. The group says it has not been contracted to provide temporary services.
