Marty’s Monday Evening Forecast – A Few Warm Days Ahead – 3/25/19
Tonight: The mountains should remain mostly clear, but areas of low cloud cover and patchy fog may again develop over low lying areas of eastern Colorado late. Expect some breezy pockets over and near the mountains at times. By morning the air should have cooled into the 30s to lower 40s for the plains with 20s over the mountains.
Tomorrow: Pockets of low cloud cover over the plains will gradually break up and all areas should be mostly sunny to partly cloudy during the afternoon. Many areas will be breezy at times during the afternoon, and although the warming might be a bit slow for low lying areas in eastern Colorado we do expect that high temperatures will end up slightly warmer than Monday with 60s to lower 70s for the plains, mainly 50s over the mountains.
Extended: Spotty showers moving through New Mexico may sneak across the border into extreme southern Colorado Tuesday night, but otherwise we look to remain dry for much of the week. By Wednesday, if the clouds aren’t too thick, many parts of eastern Colorado should expect temperatures to reach the 70s with lower elevations along the Arkansas River possibly reaching the 80s. We’ve had enough precipitation to limit the threat for wildfires some, but on Wednesday the wind will be getting pretty strong, and the air will be warm and quite dry so we’ll need to track fire weather conditions for areas that haven’t received as much precipitation. A cold front will settle over northern Colorado on Thursday, and right now it’s difficult to know where the southern edge of the cooler air will be, but it is possible that the air will be a bit cooler for the plains along and north of the Arkansas River. In general we still expect a breezy, warm day for much of the area, just not quite as warm as Wednesday for some areas. The next storm system will affect the area Friday into the weekend. Right now it appears Friday may start out windy and relatively warm, but at some point during the day on Friday the air will become sharply colder from northwest to southeast. We expect areas of rain and thunder for the plains with some snow over the mountains Friday into Friday night with more areas possibly receiving snow as the colder air settles in Friday night into Saturday. Current indications are that the heaviest snow will stay just to our north with the deeper cold air, but should the storm track a little farther south than currently anticipated then more areas could be in for significant snow. The weekend looks much colder with chances for snow mainly over and near the mountains and high temperatures only in the 30s and 40s for most of eastern Colorado.
