Pueblo police arrest suspect in 2017 killing on Avocado Street
Pueblo police say they’ve arrested a suspect in a fatal shooting that happened in October 2017 on Avocado Street.
Julian Benito Archuleta, 33, was already in the Pueblo County Detention Center on an unrelated charge when he was arrested Wednesday for first-degree murder in connection with the killing of 51-year-old Derrick Regalado.
Regalado was found dead in a backyard near 600 Avocado Street. Police investigated and searched the area but weren’t able to find a suspect immediately.
It’s not yet clear how police identified Archuleta as the suspect. We’re working on getting more information and will update this article.

A murder investigation is underway after a body was found in the backyard of a home in Pueblo.
The Pueblo Police Department responded to a home in the 600 block of Avocado Street on Tuesday at around 8 a.m.
Officers believe the investigation stems from an incident on Monday night when the Department got a call of shots fired at around 9:45 a.m. in the same area. Police searched the area and didn’t find any evidence of a shooting.
Then, at around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, people who live at the home walked outside and discovered Derrick Regalado dead in the backyard.
Alexander Miller says he got the call early this morning that his uncle had been shot and killed.
“I don’t know what to understand. I mean, I don’t know, we’re still numb. Twelve hours ago he was still alive,” Miller said.
Joyce Baros lives just across the street and says she heard the noises but didn’t realize it was gunshots.
“It’s pretty traumatic when it’s right across the street and I didn’t make the call and I didn’t check into it,” Baros said.
Miller said the most important thing for the family right now is closure for his uncle who he says was a kind and loving person.
“Please, the family begs you, if you know something that happened, please contact the police, because we need to get to the bottom of this. Derrick was a good guy and he did not deserve to die last night,” Miller said.
Police have no suspects, but believe it is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the neighborhood.
