Floral Nightmare: A warning about a website to stay away from

A special warning for those romantic online shoppers: a site called “Troy’s Florist” is reportedly scamming victims across Southern Colorado.

The company, which has been active for four years, is accused of stealing thousands from consumers nationwide, according to the Better Business Bureau.

If you’re in the market for a special gift and you’re looking online, it’s easy to come across scam sites by doing a simple Google search.

Troy’s Florist is a perfect example of one that looks completely legitimate.

It has pictures, prices, and the promise of a quick booking.

Rubisel Carranza from Colorado Springs used the site to buy his wife, Judith, two beautiful bouquets for their anniversary.

“I got a receipt, but days later nothing … no flowers,” Carranza said, who filed several complaints on the website.

It turns out, he’s not alone. There are multiple sites with hundreds of complaints from different consumers who paid for flowers, but got nothing in return.

Our team sat down with the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado CEO Jonathan Liebert, who explained the company has an ‘F’ rating with their site.

“They’re saying they’re local when they are not. They’re based out of New Jersey, but they have people in a lot of different communities telling folks they’re right here,” Liebert said.

We called to see for ourselves but found the phone number on the site only leads to an automated message and then hangs up.

Bottom line – do your research. Even if the site looks believable, call or do a simple Google search to make sure. In the meantime, our team has contacted the Colorado Attorney General’s office to request the site be taken down.
