Weather alert day – 12/12/18

TODAY: Clouds will be on the increase through the second half of the afternoon and winds will be gusting between 30-40 mph. Highs will be able to warm to the 50s to near 60 because of that early sun, with 40s over the mountains. After 5PM, winds really start to increase for the area and we will see light snow moving in to places west of I-25.

TONIGHT: A high wind warning is out for tonight as gusts could be as high as 60 mph. Light snow and rain chances stick around and move east. There is a winter weather advisory from 8PM until 2AM for Huerfano and Las Animas Counties. Here, white out conditions and difficult travel are likely. Lows tonight will be in the 20s and teens. Strong winds will make things feel like the single digits to -5 at times, depending on where you live.

EXTENDED: Snow wraps up before sunrise tomorrow and we will be left with a trace to 1″ of accumulation in the Pikes Peak Region. Las Animas County and the southern mountains will see several inches by tomorrow. Isolated slick spots are possible early on and some of the wind will stay with us for the first part of the day. The rest of the weekend looks sunny and warmer.
