Suspects break into storage unit near Downtown Colorado Springs, display AR-15

Police are searching for two suspects after reports of a storage unit break-in Thursday morning.

Police responded to the 500 block of N. Institute St. for reports of a burglary in progress. People in the residence across the street caught the suspects breaking into POD storage units, the victims chased the suspects until one of the suspects pointed an AR-15 at them.

The two unidentified suspects had taken a rifle with ammunition as well as other items during the burglary.

Columbia Elementary School was placed on a two-hour delay as a result of the search. Roads in the area have reopened and police have cleared the scene.

One suspect was described as an unknown race male, approximately 5’8″-5’9″, with a medium build, wearing a black jacket with red hoodie. The other suspect was described as an unknown race male, approximately 5’9″-5’10”, with a slender build, wearing a baseball cap.

Police located evidence from the burglary, but have yet to locate the suspects.
