Last-minute voters say why they’re turning in ballots so late

We are just one day away from the midterm election and more than 1.5 million people have cast their ballot in the State of Colorado. However, thousands of voters have still yet to submit their ballot.

Judy Hamilton, who turned in her ballot Monday, said she and her husband “had to go over the ballet and all the issues to make sure we understood them all.”

Bruce Roberts added, “It just got down to Saturday and I got to do it today or I’m going to run out of time.”

So far, 1,500,817 votes have been cast, roughly 519,000 of them being Democrat, and 515,000 Republican and 461,000 unaffiliated.

But thousands more have yet to cast their vote.

So we wanted to know, why are so many people turning in their ballots last minute?

Joanne Saunders said it was because the ballot was lengthy.

“It absolutely did, and this time I looked up every single judge because usually you just kind of mark whatever but I wanted some background on them,” Saunders said.

Amy Cavender agreed with Joanne, saying, “Needing some time to study the ballot issues. There was a lot on the ballot to look through and figure out what I wanted to do and vote on each of them.”

If you haven’t turned your ballot in you have until 7 p.m. Tuesday to do so. Click HERE for a list of voting centers and drop boxes in El Paso County.
