Man arrested for murder in downtown Colorado Springs shooting
Police say a 27-year-old man is in custody for second-degree murder after another man was found shot dead just after 2 a.m. Thursday in downtown Colorado Springs.
The shooting happened near the 100 block of N. Cascade Ave. That’s where police found 26-year-old Jalon Morgan with a gunshot wound.
CSPD began investigating and found evidence leading them to a suspect. An arrest warrant was obtained for Timothy Key. On Friday, Key turned himself in at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. A mugshot hasn’t been made available yet.
We still don’t know what led to the shooting, but Key isn’t facing a first-degree murder charge.
Key had a criminal past in Colorado Springs, including murder and assault charges that were dismissed in August 2012.
Morgan’s death is the 28th homicide in the city so far this year.
