Google Maps allows parents to track treat-or-treaters this Halloween

Are you making sure your child is staying safe this trick-or-treating season? There are several ways to keep a close eye on your kiddos this Halloween.

Google Maps has a cool feature that lets you do this by sharing your location in real-time.

The feature is super easy to set up. All you need is two devices with the Google Maps App set-up. From there you’ll need two Google accounts set up as well.

Once you’re logged into each account, open the app and click on the left-hand side to activate the drop-down menu. There, you should see the “Location Sharing” option.

Parents can customize their location settings to keep their child’s location on for several hours throughout the night.

For more information on how to set this feature up, former tech reporter and Director of Content at Ting Mobile, Andrew Moore-Crispin, offers advice. Click here for a step-by-step instruction guide.

Below we have compiled a list of other trick-or-treating apps to help keep your children safe this Halloween:

– Nextdoor: This app allows certain neighborhoods to preplan their trick-or-treating route ahead of time. It also allows neighbors to be in contact with one another and know where all the good candy spots are. Through something called the Treat Map, parents can find the best locations for the best candy!

– Life360: Aside from Google Maps, the Life360 app also allows you to keep a close eye on your kids, by tracking their locations in real-time. Experts say there are free and paid versions of the app.

– Find My Friends: This is another tracking app that typically comes pre-installed on the iPhone. Users just need to turn the app on and accept a request to follow one another and wal-ah! You’re good to go.
