While in Colorado Springs, Lamborn talks midterm election

Election day is only a week and a half away, and Congressman Doug Lamborn is running for re-election once again in the 5th District.

“I feel good about my own election, it’s up to the voters and they make the final decision,” Lamborn said.

Lamborn was in Colorado Springs to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Army’s 100th Missle Defense Brigade. The military is one of the Republican congressman’s biggest talking points.

Friday, he touted his efforts to expand Fort Carson and increase funding for space facilities, supporting President Trump’s plan for a Space Force.

“That is good for our national defense, we need that higher priority and that higher funding,” Lamborn said, “A lot of that – and this will be my mission – is to make sure that it happens here in Colorado Springs.”

As for the current election, and the so-called “blue wave” that some have predicted, Lamborn does have concerns if, for example, District 6 Republican Congressman Mike Coffman is not re-elected.

“Colorado’s going to lose and the county’s going to lose and I think that’s the kind of thing that to me would be regrettable,” Coffman said.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 also asked about his voting record. According to GovTrack, Lamborn has missed 155 votes in his 12 years in office.

“You’re talking about a 98 to 99 percent voting record and I think the people of the fifth district should be happy that they have someone who’s there 99 percent of the time,” Lamborn said.

Lamborn is running against Democrat Stephany Rose Spaulding, but she’s fighting an uphill battle.

No Democrat has ever been elected to the 5th Congressional District since it was created in 1973.
