Wind alert level 1, elevated fire danger today – 8/27/18

TODAY: We will see a mix of clouds and sun to start things out today and will clear to become mostly sunny this afternoon. Things will be breezy this morning and winds will increase a bit more following sunrise. A wind alert level 1 is in place today! Gusts could be has high as 40 today, but most should be between 30 and 25 mph. The fire danger is elevated this afternoon, but red flag warnings will not likely be issued thanks to a lack of dry fuels from recent rain. Highs will be in the 90s to near 100 on the plains with 70s and 80s in the mountains.

TONIGHT: Winds won’t be a strong tonight and lows cool to the 60s, 50s and 40s under a mostly clear sky.

EXTENDED: Tomorrow a strong cold front will be pushing through the area. It won’t have a lot of moisture to work with, so only isolated showers and storms are possible. What you will notice is a significant drop in temperatures. Highs tomorrow will be between 10 and 15 degrees cooler than today. The long range looks dry and warm, with only isolated mountain showers for the end of the week.
