El Paso County couple accused of draining 91-year-old’s bank account

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested a couple after they allegedly exploited money from a 91-year-old victim to the tune of nearly $180,000.

Herbert and Cynthia Meadows of Security-Widefield are accused of opening several credit card accounts in the victim’s name to pay off their own credit card debt. Investigators believe they also used the money to fund several other of their own failed business ventures.

The victim’s name has not been released at this time, however, police are taking time to warn future victims about these types of crimes.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit is constantly investigating these types of crimes and say criminals typically target someone they know and trust.

Officials encourage the public to keep a close eye on both their own financial activity and that of their elderly loved ones.

They also recommend having checks and balances in place and to report any suspicious activity to police.
