Victim dies after shooting in east Pueblo

Pueblo police say the 28-year-old man who was shot Monday night has died.

The shooting happened at approximately 7:58 p.m. in the 1700 block of E. 4th Street. That’s where police found Isaac Hughes unresponsive in the street. Hughes was shot in the neck and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Tuesday afternoon, the Hughes family came to the decision to take him off of life support. Soon after Hughes died from his injuries.

Detectives with the Pueblo Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Section were able to identify the suspect in the shooting as 18-year-old Joseph Angelo Lollar. Lollar turned himself into authorities. Police say the 18-year-old shooter took multiple shots at Hughes.

According to investigators, Lollar drove up to victim’s home on 4th street with other individuals in his vehicle and then opened fire at Hughes.

Investigators believe Hughes and Lollar knew each other, and a argument between the two was sparked over a third party relationship.

Lollar is now facing first degree murder charges.

Just three hours before this shooting, another shooting occurred at the 1500 block of E. Evans Street just after 4:30 pm Monday.

Police believe 37-year-old Joshua Howard and 30-year-old Holly Moreno were responsible for attacking a man while riding his bike in a nearby parking lot.

“They had tried to run him over in their car,” said Pueblo Police Captain Kenny Rider. “Then the passenger stood up out of the sun roof of the vehicle and shot at the victim.”

The two suspects in the first shooting are still at large at this time. They were last seen driving a dark four door vehicle.

As for the victim, 27-year-old Jason Ayala, he was shot in the back while fleeing. However, his injuries were not life threatening. After being shot, Ayala ran into a nearby bar asking for help, and to call police.

Despite being shot, Ayala did have a felony warrant out for his arrest in connection to motor vehicle theft charges. He’ll be booked into jail when he gets released from the hospital.

With both shootings happening so close together, Pueblo detectives were forced to move quickly.

“During yesterday’s incidents we had detectives who were out, and they were investigating the first incident,” said Rider. “While they were still working on that case the second shooting happened.”
