Investigation underway after Las Animas County woman found dead in a car

LAS ANIMAS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO)-- The Las Animas County Sheriff's Office found 36-year-old Alisha Gegelman dead in the back of a car on Oct. 12, 2023. Initially, nothing was released about her death by officials about the incident that occurred in Boncarbo, a town northwest of Trinidad. 

The Las Animas County Sheriff's Office (LACSO) and the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) are now investigating her death as a homicide. The Las Animas County Coroner confirms Gegelman died from a single gunshot wound at her home in Boncarbo.

LACSO won't comment, citing the ongoing investigation.

3rd Judicial District Attorney, Henry Solano, tells KRDO13 Investigates they've identified a prime suspect. However, the investigation is ongoing and no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
