Two fatal crashes close Colorado Springs roads Friday morning

A man is charged with vehicular homicide and DUI after police say he ran his car through a stop sign and smashed into a guardrail, killing a passenger.

Kevin Werre, 44, crashed the car at Hancock and Nichols around 2:15 Friday morning. Werre is in the hospital in critical condition, his passenger was later identified as his brother, Vernon S. Werre, died at the scene.

Another fatal crash happened on Powers and Palmer Park Blvd. around the same time. CSPD reports it was a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. The driver lost control of the motorcycle prior to impact and died on the scene.

There were no other occupants on the motorcycle. The Major Accident Unit is conducting an investigation.

The intersection around the crash experienced closures for around four hours.
