Strong storms and high fire danger – 06/22/18
Today: Highs will reach the 80s and 90s – it will be toasty once again! Temperatures will be above-average. We also have chances for some strong-to-severe storms along and east of the I-25 corridor. The largest threats will be that for large hail (possibly exceeding 2″ in diameter) and damaging gusts (at or above 60 mph). However, there could also be some isolated tornadoes. We have the best likelihood of severe storms in the southeastern corner of the state. Beyond that, out west – we have elevated fire danger! It will be windy all across southern Colorado today, but we’ll have all the right ingredients in place for Red Flag Warnings west of the I-25 corridor and into the high country. Avoid outdoor burning!
Tonight: Lows drop to the 40s and 50s under partly cloudy skies. We can’t rule out a few overnight storms. Where we don’t see showers, it will be mild and quiet overnight.
Extended: We stay hot on Saturday, and we’ll have lots of sunshine. Generally, it will be wonderful getting outside tomorrow as long as you don’t mind the heat! In the afternoon, we have a slight chance for VERY isolated storms. Most stay dry. A few of the storms that do develop have the possibility of becoming strong or severe. On Sunday, we have a better threat for powerful thunderstorms. It will be an active weather day, so be prepared to take action and head indoors should thunder roar. We’ll be slightly cooler Sunday and Monday, but the heat will return by the middle of next week.
