Crews fully contain Test Center Fire near Pueblo County line
Crews have contained a fire located on the Transportation Technology Center’s property, northeast of the city of Pueblo, and are working to extinguish the remaining flames.
The fire, which is being called the Test Center Fire, was reported on Sunday. The sheriff’s office in Pueblo County says nine agencies responded to the fire.
Officials say the fire crossed over the El Paso County line just after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
“It made it a little bit spooky for us around here for several hours,” said Mike Metcalfe, a neighbor living close to the perimeter of the fire.
Metcalfe lives off of Boone Rd. near the border of Pueblo and El Paso County. His home is one of few in the area surrounded in miles of brush and farmland.
“It would die down and then the wind was blowing and it would pop back up,” said Linda Metcalfe. “We’re just glad it didn’t get our livestock and burn our house down.”
The latest reports put the size of the fire at 2,171 acres. The fire was 100 percent contained by around 11 a.m. on Monday.
Air resources have been deployed.
No structures are threatened, and at this time, no evacuations are in place.
The sheriff’s office says no one has been injured.
No word yet on the cause of the fire.
