Police testing gunshot detectors in Colorado Springs

The Colorado Springs Police Department is working alongside several government agencies to install a gunshot detection system.

The system is intended to help officers and reduce response times to scenes of shootings.

CSPD would be the first municipality to utilize a new gunshot detection system. As a result of the partnership, the City of Colorado Springs will not incur any equipment expenses related to the system.

The system alerts officers to the precise location of the gunfire so officers can quickly locate victims, retrieve critical evidence and apprehend offenders.

At this time, CSPD and its partners in the project are evaluating the detection system for potential use, however, the system is not currently active.

Editor’s Note: The Colorado Springs Police Department requested the companies and agencies involved not be named.
