High fire danger – 04/11/18

Today: We’re tracking warm and windy weather the next few days with HIGH FIRE DANGER. We have Red Flag Warnings in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. across all of southern Colorado. Gusts could reach 30-40 mph today; thus, we have a Wind Alert Level One in place. Highs will be warm because of the winds, reaching the 70s and 80s in the lower elevations. Temperatures could be near records for today. Just a reminder: no outdoor burning today!

Tonight: It could still be breezy overnight. Lows drop to the 30s and 40s under mostly clear skies. Take caution to still avoid outdoor burning.

Extended: Temperatures will still be above-average tomorrow, and we’ll have EXTREME FIRE DANGER. Thursday, Red Flag Warnings are in effect for all of southern Colorado again. This time, we’ll have a Wind Alert Level Two: meaning we could get gusts to 50+ mph. Because of this, we also have High Wind Watch has been issued for Thursday afternoon and evening. Blowing dust is possible. Strong-cross winds could cause problems on north-south roads. Any fires that start have the potential of spreading rapidly. It will still be very gusty on Friday (right now we have a Wind Alert Level One, meaning we could see gusts to 30-40 mph), but with high humidity levels, fire danger should go down. Temperatures will drop as well, only climbing to the 40s and 50s. We have chances for mountain snow Thursday and Friday, along with a slight chance for some rain/snow in the lower elevations Friday. We’ll track it!
