Main clinic at United States Air Force Academy closes following discovery of suspicious package

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (KRDO)-- The 10th Medical Group main clinic at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) closed the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 19,  after a suspicious package was found in the facility. 

USAFA firefighters and security forces responded to the incident, evacuating personnel and patients from the base medical clinic.

An Explosives Ordnance Disposal unit from Peterson Space Force Base also responded but found no explosive hazards. Still, emergency responders remained at the scene ultimately shutting down the facility.

Just before noon on Sept. 19, USAFA officials stated the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) determined the package was not harmful, but stated the main clinic will remain closed for Wednesday, Sept.  20. 

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, USAFA officials stated the situation at the base clinic was resolved and operation hours would resume today (Sept. 20) at 1 p.m., with scheduled appointments to also resume at that time.

Patients with missed appointments will be contacted for rescheduling, according to USAFA officials, and cadet care, provided at a separate facility, will not be affected. 

The pharmacy and behavioral health clinics, located at the Community Center, are also not affected, and will remain open for normal hours. 

Below are operation hours for the facilities: 

• Pharmacy: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
• Behavioral Health: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
