38 county plows working to treat icy, snow-packed roads

Snow-packed roads, icy side streets, and high-pressure winds made for a slippery morning commute Monday.

County crews sent out 38 plows to treat priority-one areas through El Paso County.

“It was terrible, I couldn’t see out my windshield,” said “That was my greatest peril this morning.”

Tim Stickel, El Paso County’s Highway Superintendent said the heavier snow accumulation is demanding more of their resources.

“We’re going to have conditions like this, where we get quick high winds and heavy snowpack,” said Stickel. “We don’t have enough resources to be everywhere.”

Stickel said the biggest challenge is the wind blowing over excess snow that ends up re-freezing.

“It’s going to take us a little while to get it all cleaned up,” he said.

County crews have treated all priority one and priority two roads and are currently tackling priority three areas.
