Colorado Springs Airport gets ready for their busiest holiday travel season ever

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- More people on the ground here in Colorado Springs means more people in the air.

The airport is significantly busier this year compared to 2018, says Dana Schield with the Colorado Springs Airport.

She attributes the increase in air traffic to our growing city.

“In comparison to our holiday travel last year, from the two weeks surrounding Christmas and New Years, the holiday traffic is actually up 14 percent," says Schield.

The busiest travel day before Christmas was Sunday, Dec. 22, with over 6,000 travelers passing through COS Airport’s doors -- and its only anticipated to get busier.

COS Airport anticipates the busiest travel day after the Christmas holiday to be Thursday, Dec. 26.

In the two weeks surrounding Christmas and New Years, Schield says they plan on having 82,000 passengers pass through their terminals.

To avoid delays at the airport, TSA recommends arriving an hour and a half before your flight’s departure time.
