Grand County Sheriff’s Office looking for 50-year-old woman last seen in the Arapaho National Forest

Grand County Sheriff's Office

GRAND COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO)-- The Grand County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about a 50-year-old woman who went missing in the Arapaho National Forest.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, during the week of July 30, the Sheriff’s Office and a U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer observed a rental car parked at the Deadhorse Trailhead area off of Grand County Road 73, near Fraser, in the Arapaho National Forest.

The car was reported to be at this location for an extended period of time, with no sign of recent activity.

Through investigation efforts by the Forest Service, it was determined that the car was scheduled to be returned to the rental car company on Thursday, August 10.

After the Aug. 10 deadline was not met, and the car was still at the Trailhead, the Sheriff’s Office stated they started working with the rental car company to find the owner.

The Sheriff’s Office stated they were able to determine the car belonged to a missing endangered woman in her mid-fifties out of Florida named Svetlana Ustimenko.

On the evening of Friday, August 11, officers began to search the area where the rental car was found, which they stated, led to subsequent searches on Aug. 12-13.

The search was completed on Aug. 13 with the assistance of several Search and Rescue Teams.

Despite the use of ground rescuers, multiple dog teams, and aerial assets (drones), the Grand County Sheriff’s office stated they were unsuccessful in locating Ustimenko.

Now, the Sheriff’s Office is looking for anyone who may have seen Svetlana, talked to her, or given her a ride from that area.

Anyone with information regarding Svetlana Ustimenko’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Grand County Communication center at (970)-725-3311 and refer to case number #23S0011490.
