Animal sanctuary hosting grand opening in Larkspur

LARKSPUR, Colo. (KRDO) Fostering Love Rescues is getting ready to unveil its new property. The animal sanctuary is moving from its original location in Franktown to 99 acres of hills and valleys in Larkspur.

The sanctuary is home to previously unwanted horses, dogs, cats, a miniature horse and a miniature donkey. It primarily adopts rescued, lame horses and other hoofed animals to provide a loving and safe environment through the end of life.

Fostering Love Rescues is not currently licensed as a shelter, so it does not adopt animals out to others. They provide regular veterinary care to keep the animals happy and comfortable.

The sanctuary encourages volunteers to get involved by helping care for the animals. Volunteers can help out by doing ground maintenance, walking the dogs and horses, bathing and grooming the animals, and playing with them.

They offer animal mentorship programs for kids and teens through the Fostering Hope Foundation and Illuminate's family therapy services.

The sanctuary is hosting a grand opening for the public on Saturday, August 12. From 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., they will organize a networking opportunity for local non-profits and small businesses.

From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., they will open the arena doors to the public for attendees to learn about the sanctuary's work. The grand opening will be complete with a band, field games, activities, a food truck, and minute-to-win games.

Fostering Love Rescues is also raising funds for a dog park that will be open to the community.

The address is 3833 Lorraine Road, Larkspur, Colorado 80118. You can read more about the sanctuary by visiting their website.
