One man and dog dead in shooting on Pueblo’s south side, one neighbor says she knew the man
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) is investigating a deadly shooting Saturday night, after a man and a dog were shot in a home on the south side of the city.
One neighbor, Mary Manzanarez said she knew the man that died in the overnight shooting. They were neighbors for over a decade.
"He was a very nice neighbor. Everybody just loved him. He helped everybody.It was just a shock to everybody around here that knew him, you know, especially us, because we lived next door to him, you know, and it's just horrible," said Manzanarez .
According to PPD, officers were called to a house in the 1000 block of Berkley Avenue at around 10:00 p.m. after receiving information that a shooting occurred.
Pueblo PD said when officers arrived to the house, they discovered an adult man was already dead and a dog was hurt from a gunshot wound.
Manzanarez said the man was shot and killed in his home.
Pueblo Police later told KRDO that the dog suffering from extensive injuries had to be put down humanely.
PPD are now leading the homicide investigation. They say a suspect has been identified, but no arrests have have been made.
Officers with PPD said the exact age and full name of the victim will be released by the Pueblo County coroner.
According to the police department, this incident marks the 17th homicide in the city this year which surpasses the number at this time last year.
