Community invited to help with Manitou Springs Flood project

The city of Manitou Springs has invited members of the public to a pair of community meetings to discuss the Lower Canon/Park Avenue Flood Project Wednesday. The project’s aim is to increase the level of flood protection on Lower Canon and Park Avenues, as well as in Soda Springs Park. It will also include a revision of the Williams Creek Federal Emergency Management Agency Flood Insurance Rate Maps. City leaders encouraged the community to help identify issues and concerns in the area and to weigh in on possible flood control solutions at both workshops. The first is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, which is at 606 Manitou Springs Blvd. It will include a brief presentation about the flooding issues that need to be addressed. It will also include a public comment section, where attendees can identify issues, concerns and hopes for the projects. The second workshop is slated for Jan. 25, 2017.
