How to help Springer Fire firefighters

The Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team released a statement Wednesday letting people know how they can help the firefighters who are fighting the Springer fire.

In the release, officials say they have been overwhelmed with support from communities in the area of the Springer fire. They say that while it may seem that the firefighters do not have enough supplies, they actually have enough food and other necessities. The Incident command teams says it works hard to make sure all the firefighters are fed, have a place to sleep, have a place to shower, and have access to any other items they may need. Their meals are prepared daily by a caterer and includes the nutritional requirements they need to work the conditions on the fire line.

There are a few ways the community can help:

1) Show support by thanking firefighters for their work. You can send your letters to springerfireinfo@gmail.com. Firefighters will have a chance to read your messages.

2) Make a monetary donation to the firefighters. The Wildland Fire Fighter Foundation supports firefighters and their families in times of need. You can visit www.wffoundation.org to donate.

3) The Incident Command Post for the Springer fire, the Red Cross and the Sheriff’s Office cannot take food donations. However, they can take donations of unopened, bottled water and Gatorade only. If you would like to donate food, please contact your local fire department for their specific needs.
