Snow headed to Colorado Springs!

The warm and dry weather will finally be coming to an end with winter weather returning to the I-25 corridor Friday afternoon. There are still inconsistencies in the computer model forecasts with timing and accumulation but here we go.

A low-pressure center located in New Mexico Friday afternoon will track through far SE Colorado, transporting enough instability and moisture to whip up a few snow showers that will reach into Colorado Springs. I feel comfortable with a 1"-3" forecast through Saturday morning in the Springs. Snow accumulation for El Paso County will be closer to 3" the further south you are. The heaviest of the precipitation will be in the far southern and eastern portions of the state where rain showers will change over to snow late Friday night for HWY 50. Hopefully with the updated model runs we'll have a better feel for the rain/snow event by tomorrow afternoon and can provide a more detailed forecast.
