Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Not As Hot – 8/15/2020

Overview: We are tracking haze due to smoke and the effects of a weak cold front on our weather. Increased moisture at the lower levels should support spotty showers and thunderstorms over the area through the weekend, and the air behind the cold front should take the edge off of the heat a little. The heart of the moisture associated with the summer monsoon, which has been mostly to our west recently, will begin to drift over the area later next week helping to keep the air from being as hot and causing more regular thunderstorms to return to more areas.

Today: Patchy low clouds will break up in the morning, then partly cloudy, breezy and a little cooler with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms possible by mid to late afternoon. High temperatures will reach the 80s to lower 90s for the plains with 70s to lower 80s for our local mountain communities.

Tonight: Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are most likely over the plains this evening, and the farther east you live the more likely any thunderstorms in the area could be strong to severe possibly producing localized downpours, large hail and gusty wind through midnight. Weaker showers and thunderstorms over the mountains should end early with a partly cloudy sky for most areas during the night. Low temperatures will fall into the 50s and 60s for the plains with 40s and 50s for the mountains and mountain valleys.

Sunday: Partly cloudy and breezy at times with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing during the afternoon. Thunderstorms Sunday afternoon should be a bit more numerous than Saturday with some cells capable of producing localized downpours.

Extended: With some moisture likely to remain over the area next week, the air will be a little cooler and isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible each afternoon and evening. Most days will feature high temperatures in the 80s and 90s for the plains with 70s and 80s for the mountains and mountain valleys.
