Marty’s Friday Evening Forecast – Smoky Evening – 8/14/2020

Overview: We are tracking haze due to smoke and a cold front that will push some low-level moisture up against the mountains Friday night into early Saturday morning. The enhanced moisture at the lower levels should support an increase in the number of showers and thunderstorms over the area through the weekend, and the air behind the cold front should be a little cooler. The heart of the moisture associated with the summer monsoon, which has been mostly to our west recently, will begin to drift over the area next week helping to keep the air from being as hot and causing more regular thunderstorms to return to more areas.

Tonight: Isolated thunderstorms are possible early this evening near the Kansas State line, otherwise we expect a partly cloudy, hazy sky with a few sprinkles possible over and near the mountains and breezy conditions. As cooler air moves over the plains some areas of low cloud cover could develop and possibly even some sprinkles or light showers late. Low temperatures will fall into the 50s and 60s for the plains with 40s to lower 50s our local mountain communities and southern valleys.

Saturday: Patchy low clouds will break up in the morning, then partly cloudy, breezy and a little cooler with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms possible during the afternoon and evening. High temperatures will reach the 80s to lower 90s for the plains with 70s to lower 80s for our local mountain communities.

Extended: With enhanced moisture likely to remain over the area next week, the air will be a little cooler and isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible each afternoon and evening. Most days will feature high temperatures in the 80s and 90s for the plains with 70s and 80s for the mountains and mountain valleys.
