Clouds and rain chances persist into the weekend

An active pattern will continue as stronger flow aloft and ample moisture provide precipitation chances through much of the forecast period.

Isolated thunderstorm chances will increase later this afternoon and evening, with the potential for heavy downpours and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Rain chances will diminish into the overnight. With plenty of cloud cover and moisture in the atmosphere, temperatures will only drop into the upper 50s and 60s for most.

Chances of showers and thunderstorms will ramp up again on Friday afternoon, with the best chances for heavy rain in the mountains. Temperatures will continue to climb slightly, with highs in the 80s across the I-25 corridor and 90s across the eastern Plains.

The upper-level low to our west begins to move closer to our area by the weekend, shifting the best rain chances east, along the Front Range and onto the eastern Plains. A warm and moist air mass will help to increase instability, leading to the potential for stronger thunderstorms.

Temperatures will remain above average before a cold front arrives in the latter half of the weekend.
