Winds calming and temperatures dropping as storm system departs

As the upper-level storm system that brought rain, snow, and strong winds moves east, skies will continue to clear. Meanwhile, the strong winds we felt earlier this afternoon will subside through the evening hours. With cooler air in place, lighter winds, and clear skies overnight, temperatures will drop quickly to the coldest readings we've felt so far this season. Most will see temperatures drop into the low 30s, with the San Luis Valley feeling temperatures in the 20s by early Friday morning. A Freeze Warning is in place for the Colorado Springs area along with the San Luis Valley.

Friday will begin a transition to warmer and calmer weather as upper-level high pressure begins to build in. Winds will shift out of the south by late afternoon, and high temperatures will reach the upper 50s to low 60s with abundant sunshine.

Friday night into Saturday morning will again feature freezing temperatures, with a Freeze Watch currently in place for most of our area. Daytime highs will continue to warm through the weekend as upper-level high pressure builds in. Expect daytime highs in the 70s with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies through early next week. Overnight lows will drop into the 40s for most during this time.
